Hey everyone! I dont really know what to call these nails, so 'pop out' shall have to do. Unless you have any better ideas? I was inspired to do these by Nancy Mc Nails, mine are nowhere near as good as hers but I aspire to be as good as her one day! (Teach me your secrets Nancy!) I love this new pink I got from Very Emily and I really wanted to use it, so I put the two wishes together and created these.
I originally did these shiny as Nancy does, but I didn't feel like they were photographing very well so I added a matte top coat (any excuse, ey?), but I've included a shiny picture for you to compare and tell me which you prefer.
To create these I started with a base of Essence - Free Hugs which is a brilliant vibrant pink and I'm sure you'll be seeing a lot more of it on the blog. Then I added China Glaze - Liquid Leather around the edges with a small paintbrush, and any mistakes I just went over in pink. Then I added a line of MASH - White Nail Polish, and topped it off with a coat of Seche Vite. And then to make it matte I added MASH - Matte top coat (which is half price on their website at the moment by the way!).
Here's the design shiny, which do you prefer?
Let me know what you think in the comments!

I love this effect!
ReplyDeleteI love this! It does look better matte - it looks more..cartoony? - Can't wait to try it :)
ReplyDeleteThese are awesome! Love the matte version better. Gloss finish tends to interrupt the "illusion" of this style. The first thought that came into mind when I saw them was "Bubbles!" - but I suppose, I would have call them 'Beveled Nails' or 'Visually Round' Hahaha!
ReplyDeletewow this looks really funky :)That is a wicked pink and I think I prefer the matte! Mind you I am biased because I am just a general matte-lover!!!!
ReplyDeleteCute, they look like a cartoon.
ReplyDeleteCartoon nails! I'm not sure which I prefer as such but I do agree they photograph better matte - possibly because the reflections on the shiny ones detract from the 'shine' the white highlight represents? Also I'm so glad you used this colour, I've seen it on Sally Magpies but Essence swatches aren't always that easy to find (I think they've changed some names, which probably doesn't help).
ReplyDeleteSorry this comment is kind of long. What I meant to say was your nails are SO CUTE.
love the matte version also. you dont need the shine when you already have the bling spot - looks awesome!
ReplyDeleteI prefer the matte version. it makes them look cartoony-- in a good way! :)
ReplyDeleteThese look fab! I think I might give them a go tonight (though I bet they won't look half as good as yours!)
ReplyDeleteThese are so cool! :) I think the matte topcoat suits them very well.
ReplyDeleteMATTE all the way! :)
ReplyDeleteI really like this look and would love to try it but I know (just know) my unsteady head would never get such a neat borderlne ;)
Definitely matte, it looks much better in the photos! In person I think that they would both look lovely (I know I've had some really great manis that just do NOT want to be photographed). But I really do like the matte ones :)
ReplyDeleteAnother way of doing it is to do the black as a base and paint on a section in the pink, just leaving enough black round the edges to be a good size, then just painting a line at the tip to finish it off, it's pretty easy.
These are so cool. I think I prefer the matte finish, I think it kinda adds to the 'cartoony' look (if that makes any sense at all haha!) The outlines are really neat and so well executed :)
ReplyDeleteThese look so good! Any time I try to do outline nails/cartoon nails or whatever the kids are calling them, I can never get the outline even and when I do try and even it out, it's far too thick and just nasty looking! Tell me your secrets for doing this right :p
ReplyDeleteSo cute, matte cause matte is where it's at. The shininess could be somewhat distracting but I like it both ways :)
ReplyDeleteI love these nails, and I think I prefer them matte too, but both look awesome! I really want to try them for myself :) x
ReplyDeleteFeeling the pop art style, prefer the gloss finish x
ReplyDeletesuch a fun design! i like the matte version more.
ReplyDeleteThe matte finish makes it look like rubber, in a very awesome way! Love it :D
ReplyDeleteLove this look - the 'white comma' is so tre chic! I like it shinny best!
ReplyDeleteHow fun! Another vote for the matte finish.
ReplyDeleteLove the matte!
ReplyDeleteI loooove this design, it's so fun and....different! I would love to see a touturial for these :)
